Fee Schedule

The Shared Research Computing facilities are available for a modest biannual fee.  The fees will be collected by the Ken Kennedy Institute and processed by Information Technology’s Department of Business Services and Planning.

This fee schedule applies to the following systems:

Effective January 1, 2010, research sponsors will be charged a fee for active/open user accounts in their research group according to the following fee schedule:

Charge Period Effective dates Enrollment Period Rice Fee non-Rice Fee
Fall 2013 Coming Soon
Spring 2013 January 1 through June 30 December 1 through Feb 28 $25 $38.88
Fall 2012 July 1 through December 1 June 1 through December 1 $25 $38.88

If any account is active/open at any point during either of the above enrollment periods, a flat fee will be charged for that charge period. Fees will not be prorated. However, any new account that is opened/activated during the charge period, but after the enrollment period ends will not be charged until the next charge period.

This fee will pay for access to all of the shared computing resources regardless of which cluster(s) the user needs. The fee is reviewed and approved annually by the Information Technology Advisory Committee (ITAC) Research Computing Subcommittee.

Who will be charged?

Research Sponsors (faculty) will be charged for every open/active login account in their research group, including their own login accounts (if any). However, the sponsors will not be charged for their research sponsorship (web-only account). Only open/active cluster login accounts will be charged.

Why is this fee necessary?

This fee is being charged to cover the expenses incurred from maintenance contracts and various software licenses that are critical for the operation of the systems not covered by grant funding.

What is the enrollment process?

For more information on the biannual enrollment process, please see the Spring2013-User-Account-Enrollment-Process-Note sent to the sponsors during the beginning of each enrollment period.
